Best Practices

Here is a link for those of you who are less familiar with reading music.  This is a short video teaching the
* basics of rhythm reading.

For me, singing has always been a means for growth, fellowship, enjoyment and enrichment.

Pacificaires and Cedar Center Chorus - Best Practices for Choir

Full Choir

-   Make sure you register for the class online each semester. See Eunice/Pat/Stewart for details.

-   Always sign in on the roster when arriving to rehearsal and concerts. Attendance is kept and reported to the district. Make sure new members have connected with the person in charge of the roster so that their information is included.  Notify the roster person when members drop out.

-   Please do not wear any perfumes or scented lotions, etc to rehearsals or performances. We provide a scent-free environment for our members with allergies.

-   Purchase and regularly use the music CD’s Eunice creates for each semester’s music.

-   Be on time to start rehearsal – 9:30 am. That means seated and ready to warm-up.

-   Make sure you have all your music with you and sorted so you can access it easily.

-   Check the list that Jean & Norma have put on the board for the rehearsal order. Have your music in order to avoid any delays.

-   Know who your section leaders are and go to them for any help you need.

-   Prior to 9:30 am when ensembles are rehearsing in the main hall, please keep all your conversations to a whisper.

-   Report to sectionals on time at the time indicated by the director.

-   If you must speak to a neighbor during rehearsal WHISPER so you don’t keep others from hearing
instructions the directors are giving. With the size group we have talking among ourselves creates a major distraction for many. Show respect for the director and other members and make sure everyone can hear what is being said by the directors.

-   Hold your music book up so you can see both your music and the director without moving your head up
and down. The Director should be able to see your eyes at all times.

-  When rehearsal is over, stack (or have someone help you) your chair so the team can put them away
(Pacifiaires only)

-   Refreshment costs are shared. Give your fair share in the box provided.

-   Volunteer to help out with refreshment duty when it is your sections turn to prep/cleanup. See the posted schedule.

-   Volunteer to be a part of the steering committee or support teams from time to time.

-   If you are new make sure you know what the dress requirements are for performances. Ask your section leaders.

-   Get and wear a name badge so everyone can learn your name, especially new members.

-   Safety/Well-being - Keeping performance venues safe is a key issue for our choir. Please be aware of your surroundings: take note of potential hazards such as stairs, furniture, and especially wires and cords and navigate carefully. Keep your belongings from blocking the aisles. Please slow down, watch for others and minimize the urge to multitask when moving around. Ask for help getting around if you need it. Report any hazards or problems to one of the Directors. If you don’t feel well (difficulty breathing, over-heating, feeling faint), tell Eunice and take a break.

-   If you have ideas to improve the choir please submit them to the steering committee.

-   Keep this and the FAQ sheet in your binder and review it at least once a semester.

Ensembles

-   If you are selected for an ensemble the expectation is that you will not miss more than three rehearsals in a semester and not miss more than two in a row to provide continuity. Check the schedule for the times your ensemble practices.

-   If you are selected for an ensemble you are expected to perform off-book (without music in front of you). Begin work on the piece and expect to have it memorized 8 weeks before the main concert.

-   If you are unable to commit to either of these please let Eunice know so she can find someone who can        replace you. Please don’t wait to be replaced after the first month of the semester.

Thank you for your help in making our choruses a great place to sing!!!!!
