Choir Section Leader Role Responsibilities

Communicate section needs to Course Instructors. Eunice & Pat  as instructors, share your responsibility and are always available to assist section leaders.

Make sure all members, especially new members, know who the section leaders are, welcome them and review the New Member Orientation guide so they are aware of the guidelines that will help them be successful.

Know the music well. During rehearsal ask for help when section needs it, (e.g., ‘we need help with m. 58). Take thorough notes on changes to music to answer questions that may arise. (i.e. Alto’s Lament by Beth). Let them know you’re available for questions at any time.

Listen for members who need help with their music and make sure they get the help they need.

Assign an experienced section mentor to any new section members who want one.

Remind section members to help with refreshment set up and clean up tasks when it is that section’s month to be responsible.

Coordinate outside sectional practices if interest and resources allow.

SECTION LEADERS ARE MUSICAL SHEPHERDS, NOT SERGEANTS; THEY ARE MOTIVATORS, NOT CRITICS.
